the ocean

“It’s a mockingbird.”
She looked up into his brown eyes. Smiled. Of course he was there.
He sat beside her. “What was that tune you were playing?”
“Oh – its…an old Irish song… I can’t remember the name. But its about a woman who falls in love with a ghost. When she realizes it she throws herself into the ocean to drown herself. But the ghost saves her.”
Silence.
“Is that how it ends?”
“No, *laughter* … It ends that she gets on a boat – sails out into the sea – because even though she lost the one she loved, she found hope at the bottom of the ocean.”
