superlative

In freewrite, poetry on June 29, 2011 at 11:59 am

My heart breaks

Louder than glass windows.

My heart aches

Deeper than the Sea knows.

My mind bakes

Hot in the noon sun.

My hands shake

But this war is not done.

We shared secrets in the pool beneath the stars.

We shared dreams on the smooth, black trampoline.

We shared tears in the hallway where we used to laugh and play,

You needed faith – so you asked me to pray.

We shared confusion across the telephone wires.

We shared smiles, songs, a dance or two or three….

We shared letters. We shared Oreos in fresh, white milk.

We shared joys – across the miles, and while ice skating.

And someday, I’ll be there in your wedding,

And [let’s hope ;)] soon after, you’ll be in mine.

And we’ll share the joy of being first to see each other’s babies –

To be there through the happiest and saddest times.

Because you are my Sister and my Dearest Friend,

My prayer partner, my childhood BFF,

A beautiful, captivating woman of God,

One I love so much more than words can express –

Sweet and lovely lady, our Father adores,

I love you! And I can’t wait to share more!

She laughs

In freewrite, poetry on June 16, 2011 at 2:23 pm

She laughs because she’s homesick

And her heart is raw

As her hands that have scrubbed

Those dishes too many

In hot soapy water

These too many years.

And her soul is like a fire –

Beautiful and strong as a Tigerlilly

Despite the harsh and heavy

Unexpected thunderstorms.

She laughs at lightening.

She laughs at the harsh words that aim

To slit her wrists.

She will not surrender!

She will not give in!

Pushing past tired and aching

And lonely and hurting

Rejected and Abused

She will continue!

She will be victor!

Let the words come!

Let scalding water have its way! –

She will not be shattered

She will not be swayed.

Yes, it burns when the heat comes

And, yes, yes, her hands bleed.

But her soul is a fire, a flower,

– lovely, pure light; the softest, most colourful petals –

Hidden in the cleft of a Rock,

Protected from every storm.

She laughs because she’s Homesick:

She has joy, soon she’ll be home.

pool of tears

I am a pool of tears

Overflowing in the spring rain.

they tried to stop the river

In freewrite, poetry on June 11, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Once there were some humans
who tried to stop the river,
stop it up with
dirt and mud and sand.

Silly little people, who can truly stop a river?
On it came,
and flooding
over,
cleansed
the
land.

golden memory

In freewrite, poetry on June 11, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Yesterday’s memories

Are pictures framed in gold

Never do they tarnish

Never grow too old.

Yesterday’s love
I remember yesterday’s love:
Like a caressingly warm summer breeze
Yesterday’s dreams come back to me.

No quarrels, no fights,
Just the tender touch
The haunted me at night;
Just the softest songs that crowded up my dreams
Yesterday’s love – the sweetest thing.

All the hurtful days
Melt and slip away into a blurry haze.
Overshadowed by the laughter and smiles
Dancing barefoot on the cool, white kitchen tiles.

Arms around me tight
Ne’re a harsh word
Ne’re a doubt that crossed my mind
Alright, perhaps it wasn’t so fine before…
But golden yesterday, were you not that and more?

J’aime le terre

In freewrite, poetry on June 11, 2011 at 11:38 am
I love the world:
Every blade of grass,
Every pair of eyes.
Every breath of air
Chasaying through my lungs
Brings such delight!

Cerulean

In freewrite, poetry on June 9, 2011 at 8:01 pm

A color came and found me.
It saw me staring
Into the pages
Of a new anthology
Of old writing.
– Saw my eyes:
blue
and lit with the light
of love at first sight,
as I gazed on the word
of a color:
Cerulean.

Oh!
The nights and the days
I have dreamed of you
– sweet colour –
yet never seen!
To one day, long hence
be scribbling through an art set
and suddenly arrested
by the smooth blue brilliance
on the cool white page,
fall in love again
and recognize thy name!
<Cerulean>

{And oh, my Love,
so will it be with us?
knowing Your Name so long,
loving so dearly,
to someday
– enraptured –
behold Thee in all Thy glory?

Stir, my soul!
Where are you, poetry?
It’s so hard to find you
In such darkness.
But here comes the day,
Now my eyes are opened
And the world
– oh! –
So green and melodic!
